VELKHOUND - Antoinette

Comin' atcha hot is a sneak-peek of the soon-to-be adoptable species my girlfriend and I have been developing: Velkhounds! Also simply known as Velk. They are a sentient, mammalian alien species from a terrarian planet that is similar to ours in atmosphere and size. The planet itself is still being developed, as are its other residents, but its unique feature is that its flora and much (but not all) of its fauna bear bio-luminescent features. In the case of the Velk, their bio-luminescence activates under the influence of their moons. The luminous patterns are unique to each Velk, varying in appearance (stripes, spots, speckles, etc. or a mixture of the sort) and bear a single color. Velk have an odd-number of eyes with one always being in the center of their forehead. Two sets of ears are for picking up on higher and lower pitched frequencies that the life on their planet produces, and with their multiple eyes, makes them effective apex predators with omnivorous tendencies.

The Velk are an intelligent race with their own language, culture and caste system. They live in tribes that are familial- and matriarch-based, ruled by the eldest female that is the direct descendant of the tribe's founder. Offspring are the byproduct of utilizing wandering bachelors or males that simply offer their services for breeding. Despite casual breeding, the Velk are no strangers to choosing mates. Although it's an uncommon practice, mates are usually for life.
